Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes chronic, widespread pain and sensitivity in numerous body areas for at least three months. Its symptoms include widespread physical discomfort, stiffness, weariness, interrupted sleep, cognitive problems, and emotional changes such as anxiety or sorrow. The specific etiology of fibromyalgia is yet unknown. It's thought to be a disorder called neurosensory dysfunction. In other words, because their brains are more sensitive to pain signals, fibromyalgia patients may experience pain at a lower threshold. Women are more likely than men to develop fibromyalgia because female hormones are thought to influence pain perception. According to recent studies, fibromyalgia may be caused by a variety of stress-related disorders that result in dysregulation of the immune system.
